Covid Cards
Updated: Mar 1, 2021
I don't know about you, but I'm getting a little tired of the isolation. I haven't been closer than 6 feet to anyone since about a year ago (except my husband, of course). I haven't seen my sister since October and I only saw my brother for a brief handoff of Christmas bread, and they both live in the same state and are careful. I haven't seen my two children who live in California for over a year. Right before it got way too cold, I sat wrapped up in a blanket in a barn with a close friend and tried to catch up on news, and I sat on the porch masked for a short spell with a neighbor. And that's it!
I have a stamp that says, "A friendship can weather most things and thrive in thin soil; but it needs a little mulch of letters and phone calls, and small, silly presents every so often just to save it from drying out completely." (Hampton Art DF2138) I've done quite a few "meetings" over zoom, but I have to admit, it's the cards and letters I've received that have given me the most pleasure. I've reconnected with some friends from my past, and we've begun writing again. One of them lives in France, and we wrote ALL the time back in the 80s and 90s....and then life got in the way as it sometimes does. Another even suggested "Covid Cards", something I'd been thinking about already. A letter, more than a text or an email, is something you tend to go back to more than once. And it certainly is a pleasant surprise to find something in the mailbox besides a bill, an ad or a solicitation for money. (How many of you have ordered something on line just to get something fun in the mail? Ahem, that would be me.)
At any rate, I've decided to make a few cards I'm going to call COVID cards that say things like, "Everything will be OK." or "I wish we were merely 6 feet apart." or "I totally hugged this card before mailing it. That's sort of like sending a hug, right?" And for sure, the quote by Pam Brown I mentioned above. Consider getting one and sending a special message to someone you haven't been able to see for a long time. Since Covid. That person will thank you, I am sure.
And don't forget, I do custom orders... (And the card pictured is another Stamping Bella Stamp: Maybelline loves Mail. I LOVE Stamping Bella.)
